Taos Ski Valley shines in Skiing's Adventure Guide
Skiing's annual Adventure Guide hit the newsstands recently, ranking Taos Ski Valley among the top ten ski resorts in the country. The Adventure Guide recognizes the different traits that single ski resorts out. Rankings take into account bumps, steeps, glades, powder, backcountry skiing and character.
Taos Ski Valley received a ranking of sixth for steeps, ranking among other great resorts such as Whistler/Blackcomb and Jackson Hole. This is no surprise to anyone who has ever skied Taos' legendary steeps. Some of what makes Taos known for its great terrain are the chutes off of the Ridge. "Heft your skis and hike to some of skidom's most gut-gripping chutes" says Claire Walter of Skiing.
Bumps are another strength at Taos Ski Valley. Bump runs like Longhorn helped establish Taos's eighth place ranking. Vice President of Marketing, Chris Stagg says "One of the reasons we dont have high speed quad chairs is because your legs need a rest after each run."
The Adventure Guide also mentions some of the things that make Taos Ski Valley unique with "a mountain that unfolds with the complexity of origami." The Town of Taos puts the spice into Taos while it "offers abundant lodging, great dining, and a trendy gallery scene."
Recently, Taos Ski Valley was also ranked in the top resorts in America in Ski Magazines annual resort review. The ratings come from a survey of Ski Magazine readers and include categories from terrain to dining. Taos Ski Valley won awards in eight categories and at 27th was in the Top 60 North American Ski Resorts for overall excellence. Taos received Gold medal awards for Challenge, Terrain and Weather. Taos also scored well in categories where it had not received recognition in previous years, including Dining (25th) and Value (26th).
Taos is always the value leader in the region and this year that is more true than ever. With most major resorts charging between $50 and $60 for lift tickets, Taos Ski Valley is sure to rate even higher in Value in future surveys, due to the introduction of their $35 multi-day ticket. This special offer allows skiers to ski any day (including holidays) during the 2000-2001 season for only $35 a day. This is a $10 savings off the single day rate of $45 and is available by pre-purchasing a multi-day ticket (3 or more days) by December 1st 2000.
