ERNIE BLAKE WEEKEND CELEBRATION GOES RETRO
The Ernie Blake Birthday Celebration has been held for the last 13 years to honor Taos Ski Valley founder Ernie Blake on the anniversary of his birthday. This year the two day long, mountain-wide celebration will be held March 22nd and 23rd.
Every year the festivities include music, a birthday cake and a treasure hunt where guests search the mountain for ornaments with Ernie’s picture on them which they then exchange for prizes.
Saturday ends with the Second Annual Son of Beer Festival, where distributors from across the state bring their favorite brews for guest to sample. The Son of Beer Festival goes from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM in Tenderfoot Katie’s Cafeteria. For only $10, beer lovers get a souvenir taster mug and as many samples of great beer as they like while groovin’ to the music of the Cullen Winters Blues Band and sampling some of Rhoda’s Restaurant’s best munchies. The evening is capped off by a torchlight parade down Snakedance and an amazing fireworks display beginning at 7:00PM.
The newest addition the Ernie Blake Birthday Celebration is Retro Day on Sunday, March 23rd. Break out your super long skis and day-glow and enjoy the skiing! In the afternoon come to the Martini Tree deck for specials on Martinis (Ernie’s drink of choice), funky music, and prizes for best retro outfits and equipment.
The whole weekend is full of activities for the entire family. So, start searching for your stretch pants and rear entry boots and come enjoy the spring skiing and sunshine while you help us honor Ernie!
