Taos Mountain Film Festival

Mountain Film Festival October 9-12, 2003 The third year of a film festival documenting wilderness adventure, threats to environment and human rights in remote regions. Do you wish you could spend more time in the outdoors? Or visit the great mountain ranges? Are you concerned by threats to the environment and the abuse of human rights in mountain cultures? Do you like to settle back in a theater seat and be swept away to distant lands? Or risk your neck vicariously through the camera lens? If any of these things appeal to you then you should become a member of Taos Mountain Film Festival. We are planning our third annual festival. Its the fiftieth anniversary of the first ascent of Everest so we have several premier climbers and filmmakers who have been to the worlds summit confirmed to attend. Other adventure filmmakers will show recent work from the world of kayaking, rock climbing, extreme skiing, wilderness exploration, etc... And you will have the chance to meet the characters, past and present, of the mountain world in open discussion. Our environmental department will examine the pressing issue of the use and abuse of water both in the southwest and worldwide. On the human rights front we will be presenting films and guests to discuss the tragic legacy of modern war.

Our confirmed guests for this year's festival, which takes place from October 9th to 12th, include: David Breashears, Everest climber and filmmaker; Conrad Anker, Everest summiter and "America's best known climber" (Climbing Magazine); Dave Hahn, Everest guide; Gretel Ehrlich, author; Beth Wald, photographer; Rob Schultheis, author, Jim Bridwell, alpinist; Warren McDonald, climber and filmmaker; Tim O'Neill, speed climber and mountain satirist; Bobby Muller, President of Vietnam Veterans of America and landmine campaigner; Tommy Caldwell, America's best all-around climber, and Tommy's wife, Beth Rodden, the youngest woman to climb 5.14. Our first two festivals met great success. Ed Webster, 2001 "I won't ever forget the weekend. It was a truly magical and marvelous few days. You and your staff deserve buckets of credit for pulling it off." Royal Robbins, 2002 "We had a terrific time in Taos. They are building this event, thoughtfully, into a big success."

Tim O'Neill, 2002 "Taos Mountainfilm is cool: you hangout with some of the worlds' best climbers, adventurers and outdoor film makers and at the end you get to dance with the locals."

So join us and be part of Taos Mountain Film Festival: celebrating adventure, with a conscience.
