Industry Experts Rank Taos Among the Best
Taos Ski Valley has always been known for its intense terrain and unique "ski only" attitude. As the results of this year's ski/adventure magazine surveys show, skiers are looking for atypical adventures and Taos is at the top of their lists. Every year SKIING Magazine surveys ski industry experts, from ski editors to professional skiers, looking for the most intense places to ski in North America. They combine survey results with hard data about vertical drop, acreage, degree of pitch, number of bars and restaurants, ticket price and, most importantly, snowfall, in order to come up with their list of the 25 Top Spots."
This year's survey ranked Taos Ski Valley as eighteenth overall in North America. Kachina Peak, Taos' signature hike-to run, was high on SKIING's list of classic terrain. "Taos is a four-letter word for steep" states Outside Magazine's Travel Guide in which Taos is named one of the ten best ski resorts in North America. Main Street off Kachina Peak is again named a classic in the article, proving that the turns and the view are well worth the hike. Among ski industry experts, Taos steep terrain always inspires smiles. And in a sport where skiers are searching for fresh adventures, Taos' hike-to terrain and skier only atmosphere once again set it apart from giant, Disneyesque resorts.
