Local Fourth & Fifth Graders Ski Free

Once again, this year, Taos Ski Valley gave Taos' school children a very special Christmas present. For the fourth year in a row Taos Ski Valley offered fourth and fifth graders from local schools the opportunity to learn to ski for free. Beginning this week, fourth and fifth grade students from all the elementary schools in Taos will be coming to Taos Ski Valley once a week for three weeks, to take classes and ski for free. The students will spend two hours in lessons with instructors who specialize in teaching children to ski. After their lesson kids will free ski and explore Taos' amazing mountain.

"By giving these kids the opportunity to experience the mountains on skis, we do something good for them and the community and hopefully turn them into skiers for life," says Gordon Briner, General Manager of Taos Ski Valley and initiator of the program. In addition to the special fourth and fifth grade session, Taos Ski Valley will continue to support schools in Northern New Mexico by running its regular school program in which students of all ages ski one day a week for six weeks. Scores of students from as far away as Pojoaque and Las Vegas, as well as Taos area schools, have been coming to Taos Ski Valley for nearly 20 years as part of the school program. Through programs like these Taos Ski Valley hopes that all local children will have the opportunity to build a love for skiing as well as a respect for the mountains.
