Taos Receives Big Snowfall

Taos Ski Valley, NM – One of the best starts for February brought 50 inches of snowfall to Taos in one week leaving conditions extremely good. Taos Ski Valley received a big boost from Mother Nature Wednesday through Thursday, February 4-5, 2004 with 25 inches of snowfall for the storm. This added to the 21 inches of snow that was waiting for skiers on Monday morning of the same week to bring superb conditions to New Mexico’s premiere ski area. Finaly another 4 inches of snow fell on Sunday, February 8 to make the weeks total 50 inches. Another 8 inches fell on Wednesday, February 11.

“February has started with a bang with 50 inches of snow in a week” says Bret Helenius, Director of Sales for Taos. “The hardest thing about selling New Mexico is convincing people that we have big mountains and big snow. Hopefully this will convince them.” Taos’ two week total now reads 65 inches with more snow expected through the weekend.

Taos is now close to 100% open with powder skiing all over the mountain. Almost all of the famed steeps Taos is known for are open including the West Basin, Highline Ridge and the skiing is great. Kachina Peak is close to an opening.
