Great Skiing and Festivities Help Celebrate Opening Weekend at TSV

Winter has finally come to Taos Ski Valley. With ten inches of new snow last weekend, followed by low temperatures which were optimal for snowmaking, Taos is ready for the December 14th opening. "The wet snow has created a great base for our continued snowmaking, and with more snow expected this weekend, the skiing for opening weekend is going to be beautiful" said Adriana Blake, TSV's Marketing Director.

Taos will open from the top of the mountain on the 14th with lifts 1, 2, 3, the Rueggli and the carpets operating. The Kachina side of the mountain will open soon after opening day and TSV hopes to have its Kachina chair (#4) open by Christmas.

To celebrate opening weekend the Village of Taos Ski Valley will "Light up the Mountains" with a party that will include a visit by Santa Clause, caroling, snow dances and a special operatic performance by Mary Jane Johnson of the Taos Institute of Opera. The festivities will begin at 5PM in the pagoda area in front of Mogul Medical.

On the 15th TSV will host a ski demo all day at the base of lift #1. During the demo, the public will be able to test the newest equipment by top ski companies such as K2, Salomon, Dynastar and Volkl, all free of charge.

The day will be capped off with the 12th annual Brew Master's Festival from 4:30-7PM in the Resort Center. For just $20, beer lovers will get a commemorative taster mug, samples for the best brews from such breweries as Steamworks and Eskes, as well as appetizers from several local restaurants.

It is winter in Taos so don't miss out. Go to skitaos.org for more information on opening weekend and everything that is happening at Taos Ski Valley this winter.
