TAOS READY FOR BIGGEST OPENING EVER
Start looking for your powder cords, because Taos Ski Valley will open this Friday with the deepest base seen on an opening day since the 1970s, 75 inches! Taos has received 68 inches of snow in the last 6 days, with more forecast for this weekend.
We delayed our opening at Thanksgiving because it was too warm to make snow and we had gotten very little natural snowfall, said Adriana Blake, TSVs Marketing Director, Things were looking pretty grim, until last Friday and now there is so much snow our biggest problem is getting as much terrain as we can open by Friday. It is a good problem to have.
Taos will have the mountain open from the top on Friday, with lifts 1,2,3,7 the Rueggli and both carpets operating, the remaining lifts will open on the 22nd. Virtually all the beginner and intermediate terrain will be open this weekend, with steeper terrain opening as soon as avalanche control work is done. With this much snow all at once, the avalanche danger is really high, said Ski Patrol Director, Brett Hardy. We are doing our best to get as much terrain open as possible and still keep everybody safe.
Christmas has definitely come early to Taos Ski Valley and skiers will be celebrating starting on Friday, so come on up and enjoy the best conditions we have seen in years! Go to skitaos.org for information on this weekends great events and updated terrain openings.
