Taos Ski Valley, NM – Combine icy cold water, fat skis and sunny spring weather and what do you have? The Southwest Pond Skimming Championship set for Taos Ski Valley April 3, 2005. Bikini-clad babes and studly dudes donning g-strings will be braving the freezing waters of Lake Blake, a 75 foot long man-made lake at the base of Strawberry Hill in Taos Ski Valley’s beginner base area.
The mission of the skimmers is to ski down Strawberry Hill and successfully skim across the pond without catching an edge and going for a swim. Ten Points will be awarded for costume, distance reached and style to total a possible thirty points. There will be a $10 entry fee and the winner will take home a cash purse along with goodies from sponsors Bud Light and Salomon. Wolfgang Spa Works of Taos will be on hand with a hot tub for competitors to get warm after their damp dip.
The mode of transportation is open to anything that is not motorized. The event will run from 2:30 to 4:30 PM. “I think we have proven that Taos Ski Valley is not only a great ski area, but is a perfect venue for major events” says Alejandro Blake, Events Coordinator at Taos Ski Valley.
On the Monday following the Pond Skimming Championship, all lift tickets drop to $30 per day for all ages to celebrate Taos Ski Valley’s extended season. The discounted lift tickets run through April 10, 2005, the new closing date in Taos.
