Snowmaking operations started October 20th!
LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW! Most everybody is sleeping. It is dark and cold. Suddenly, a roar rips through the valley breaking the silence. That is right, it is snowmaking season again. Taos Ski Valleys dedicated teams of snowmakers are getting ready to do what they do best, make snow and get the mountain ready for a Thanksgiving opening. With winter setting in and daytime temperatures dropping, snow guns will be operating 24 hours a day. The crews will make snow on 100% of TSVs beginner and intermediate terrain, giving Taos Ski Valley the largest snowmaking coverage area in the region. Mountain Manager Bill Etchemendy said, The key ingredients in snowmaking are air, water, and air temperatures below 28 degrees. We have had some good natural snowfall so far this year which makes the snowmakers job easier because it cools the air temperature and the ground which keeps the machine made snow from melting. Snowmaking continues until the middle of January. This year falls early snowfall and cold temperatures have made everyone at Taos Ski Valley optimistic about the coming season.
