Old World versus New World

Wine Educator Greg O'Byrne leads a tasting that demonstrates how wine from grapes grown in the old world (Europe) compare to wines from the same grapes grown in the new world (North America, South America, Australia, New Zealand). At this fun and educational tasting, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon from France will be tasted alongside examples of the same varietals produced in Sonoma, Oregon, Paso Robles and Napa.

Calera Wine Co.

Josh Jensen's 2003 Calera Selleck Pinot Noir was Food & Wine Magazine's American Pinot of the Year. Josh invites you to taste the 2003 alongside the 1997 Selleck Pinot Noir as an example of how the wine ages. The seminar will also feature Mt. Harlan Mills Vineyard Pinot Noir from 1997 and 2003 and Calera's Mt. Harlan Chardonnay from 1999 and 2006.

The State of the Rhone in California

Four producers of Rhone varietal wines will each show two wines, a Syrah and a Rhone blend, and discuss the state of Rhone grapes in California. The panel will include Rick Longoria of Longoria wines in Santa Barbara, Joe Donelan of Pax Cellars, Ashley Hepworth of Phelps and Scott Woodward of Paras Vineyards.

Champagne Tasting and Pairing

One of San Francisco's top Sommeliers, Eugenio Jardim of Jardiniere Restaurant, will lead guests through an informative tasting of six great Champagnes (including Champagne Veuve Clicquot Le Grande Dame 1990), highlighting Champagne's different styles and sharing tips on how he pairs them with dishes at his restaurant.

Freestone Vineyards and Winery

Damian Parker, VP of Production at Joseph Phelps, returns to Taos and will host a wine seminar focusing on Freestone, Phelps' Sonoma Coast winery producing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Six Freestone wines will be tasted from this Burgundian style domaine.

Spain continues to be one of the wine world's most dynamic regions. Ray Vigil, owner of Vin Iberian, spends six months a year sourcing wines from Spain's best new producers. Join Ray and taste a pair of wines from each of four different Spanish wine regions.

Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir

The Santa Ynez Valley in Santa Barbara has been producing great California Pinot Noir for four decades. Nearest the ocean side of the Valley, the sub AVA Santa Rita Hills has become the cool-climate source for compelling Pinot. Join a panel of Pinot Noir producers from the Santa Rita Hills who have mastered the grape - Joe Davis of Arcadian, Kris Curran of Sea Smoke and Curran Wines and Bruno d'Alfonso of Badge.

Great Wines of Piemonte

Brian Larky, owner of Dalla Terra, will pour Barolo and Barbaresco from two of Piemonte's great procucers - Marchesi di Gresy and Boroli.The seminar will also feature Piemonte's Barbera d'Alba, Dolcetto d'Alba and Moscato d'Asti from the same two producers.

Martine Saunier, owner of Martine s Wines, will pour and discuss great red and white Burgundy wines from some of France s great domaines from the the acclaimed 2002 through 2005 vintages.
